George W. Nitchie Papers, 1940-1986.

George W. Nitchie (GWN) was a professor of English at Simmons College from 1947-1986, serving as Chair of the English Department from 1972-1978. GWN earned his B.A. from Middlebury College (VT) in 1943 and an M.A. in 1947 and Ph. D. in 1958 from Columbia University (NY). The collection documents GWN's tenure at Simmons College and his writing career. Included are numerous Simmons College committee records, poetry (published and unpublished), articles, book reviews, and typescripts of GWN's Master's thesis and Ph. D. dissertation. The collection also includes correspondence and research notes relating to GWN's two books, Human Values in the Poetry of Robert Frost and Marianne Moore: An Introduction to the Poetry.
